Introduction

SWU College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, a newly-established group on the 30th of April, 2006 after the merging of former Southwest Normal University and Southwest Agricultural University. There are 62 faculty and staff members, and among whom 11 professors, and 19 associate professors.

The college occupies an area of more than 8000 m2 with teaching and experimental apparatus worth of 15 millions. It has become an experimental center for pharmacy, pharmaceutical engineering and other relevant disciplines, and also a scientific research base for postgraduate education. It has established more than 20 practice sites outside of the University.

The college consists of 6 research facilities including Chemical Pharmaceuticals, Biological Pharmaceuticals, Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Analytics, and Traditional Chinese Pharmacy. It has a Model Center for Pharmaceutical Experimental Teaching Center. The college has 3 Ph D supervisors and 24 master mentors, and has been authorized to confer Master’s in Microbiology and Biochemical Pharmaceuticals, Pharmaceutical Analytics, and Ph D Degrees in Pharmaceutical Resources Chemistry. By the end of 2006, the college has enrolled around 800 undergraduates and more than 160 MA and Ph.D. candidates.

The college has established Pharmacy resource chemistry, Modern Biological Medicine Research Institute, International Chinese Veterinary Medicine, and Drug Testing Center. To date, one of the teachers being the recipient of the CAS Young Talented Award, teachers of the College have obtained 3 projects of Chinese National Natural Science Foundation, 1 sub-project of the 973 Project, 7 projects at provincial level, and 5 transverse projects. They have obtained over 4 millions research fund, owned 7 patented inventions and utility models, and publish over 50 original research articles per year, 20 of which have been embodied in SCI. Some of their efforts have earned numerous provincial and ministry awards.
